Crash At Quinta Train Crossing

July 22, 2008

Sleepy Weston Rhyn has few claims to fame. Besides the OM UK national office being based there, the English village is a barely known dot on a map somewhere near Oswestry… The tranquil scene was however suddenly disrupted by a serious accident at the local train crossing. Weston Rhyn is too small a place to have a station, but the train line to North Wales does go right through the village. Last weekend a passing tractor was somehow too close to the tracks as a train hurtled past. Whilst the vehicle got mashed, give thanks that no-one was seriously hurt. Read the story here.

Japan Christian Link

July 21, 2008

Seeking to serve Christ among Japanese worldwide… Our time attending a ‘mission refresh’ course at All Nations Christian College was greatly enhanced by a conference for Japanese Christians taking place at the same time. Among the fresh faces and new contacts were an elderly Japanese couple Nobby had first met in the UK several years ago and who are now church-planting in Okinawa. We were also excited to meet a British couple who organise a monthly church service for Japanese in the north of England. The event was organised by Japan Christian Link – see their website here.

Off To All Nations

July 9, 2008

All Nations Christian College is one of the UK’s most known Bible schools. We’re heading there for a weeklong ‘Missions Refresher’ course that the college regularly runs. Having lived in four different places in the last five years, we really appreciate the chance to take stock and focus again on why we’re serving with an organisation like OM. The time certainly wont be a holiday though – we have occasions to actively present the ministry we’re involved in to other participants. There’s also a course for Japanese Christians at the same time (!) and we’re bringing a Japanese friend along to attend that.

New Day Dawns For OM On The Web

July 7, 2008

Keeping up with new technology, OM UK have relaunched their website. Finding the time and staff with relevant skills to reach this stage has however been no small undertaking. Paul has been on a small team of three that have dedicated several weeks to realising the goal. Among the new features are links to search all the OM database of short-term ministry opportunities – something that will greatly help inform those who are considering volunteering some of their time. As for all the other exciting changes and developments, you’ll have to visit the site yourself to see – here.
